Think Progress has the story and it’s essentially a signature case of Fear and Smear.

It’s like this administration have a special “defamation” reflex that spews bile whenever encountering lucid thought. Here, General Sheehan states the absolutely obvious:

We cannot “shorthand” this issue with concepts such as the “democratization of the region” or the constant refrain by a small but powerful group that we are going to “win,” even as “victory” is not defined or is frequently redefined.

Which of course earns the guy that they WANTED TO HIRE a description as “a “liberal military officer” and a “defeatist”, which of course begs the question why they wanted to hire a “liberal defeatist” in the first place. But they weren’t done. They also said:

…there have been many “shortcomings” in Sheehan’s career. Engaging in guilt-by-association tactics, the Times tries to link Sheehan to convicted spy Ana Belen Montes. [Gertz] also writes that Sheehan walked out of a speech by neoconservative James Woolsey on Wahhabist terrorism.

So, which is General Sheehan today? Is he capable War Czar candidate or a spy who walks out of speeches about Saudis? How incompetent must they be to offer the job of WAR CZAR to such a guy as they try and paint Sheehan out to be.

We have no idea who Sheehan is or what his track record is but one thing is clear - he got Plamed.
